Devon Violets

We spotted some Devon Violets yesterday on our walk...first this season.  Of course they are really small and the pics here don't show just how small, you'll just have to believe me..

still, no matter what the size they did make a sketching opportunity...

You really know how to make me homesick! Lovely. My mum used to pick the violets, soak them in eggwhite and sugar, dry them, and use them as decorations on birthday cakes. Perhaps I'll try to make some when our Canadian violets start blooming.

I don't think the comment that I just left took. Lovely sketch of the tiny violets. I finally saw some crocus(es) popping up out of the ground. Yay Spring!

Thanks Sue....our walk was all the better for the sketching opportunity and finding these little flowers even more so.

Sorry about that...didn't mean to make you homesick S. I think it is so nice that your mum did this with the local violets, how wonderful. You should definitely do the same, your grands will then see a piece of family history in action.

Thanks for being persistent with the comment Joan...I get that sometimes on blogs, the comment goes off into space somewhere!

Dear Ann, I love violet so much. Yes, it's tiny and so humble, yet it tells us spring. Your drawings are lovely. Keep it up. Thank you!! Cheers, Sadami

Yes, it was lovely finding them growing in the bank by the side of the pathway. Of course, we are in Spring now and you are going into Autumn I guess?

Wild violets are my favorite flower! ♥ I would have loved to live in the days when street vendors sold them in bunches.

They are so sweet, I think they are what we call 'March violets'. Do they have a scent?
