Loose watercolours

Still playing with my new squirrel mop brushes, I have done these two quick paintings.  The mop brushes have proved ideal for loose work, they seem to 'make' you work loose...that's great for me, just the effect I want.     The first painting with the yacht, of course, had some details put in with a smaller brush, but they really were just 'finishing off' bits.  This second painting...well,  hope you can see that it is a tree.  Just did this from imagination with Lots of paint prepared.  It gives the impression of a tree on a hillside with the light coming from the left, hopefully.  I waited for the first wash of paint to dry completely and then went over with a slightly stronger tone, but didn't want to over do it.

Mop brushes

Just last week I purchased three new brushes...yay, love it when I get arty stuff in the post.
This time it was Squirrel Mop Brushes - I'm hoping the squirrel died of natural causes, but doubt it!
Anyway, these brushes are great and will be loved for years.

I bought them from Rosemary & Co   (page 17 if you have their booklet) or
look here at their online page,
and would like to add that from ordering online to receiving was less than 24 hours, excellent service.

I chose sizes 2, 6 and 8

 they form a lovely point

and hold an amazing amount of paint

[above 'example' : a yummy swirl of paint just for the heck of it....]

The advantage with these brushes is that they automatically make you paint in a Loose style, so if you are wanting to do that type of painting, I would say they are ideal

In fact, the painting from my previous post was done with these brushes...

So, although I had found the paper hard going
the brushes made
up for it!

When the paint dried on the 'example'   I thought it looked a bit like a rabbit.....can you see it!

Would have been spooky if it had looked like a squirrel wouldn't  it!!!

Hope you enjoyed

Just Sketches

Having had a busy week that left me very little time to paint, I did manage to squeeze in a quick session of sketching.  Oh how I dislike the weeks when that happens, but Life catches up doesn't it and we all find ourselves having to portion out our time and schedules in varying degrees of priority.  Given the opportunity, of course, I would portion mine to 24/7 painting and sketching, but heyho!!!

Anyway, here I will share some of the sketches - Before's and After's -

Before's:  in that I have photographed the sketches (done in pen - stupidly couldn't find a pencil at the time..doh!)

and

After's: I have then added a little paint to them

Soft cuddly Donkey (not mine I would say!) but belonging to a relative

Soft cuddly Zebra !
(this Zebra was SO easy - obviously not much to 'colour' in)

and finally,

Teddy cuddling a Basket (!) - no I don't understand that either, but it made for
a great sketch subject

So, even though I had very little time for Painting this
week I was able to sketch.

Today Linking to
with many Thanks to
EVA and Kristin

Great Weekend

Desktop Scribble Pad

Not sure what to call this idea.....Desktop Scribble Pad seems fairly appropriate.  You see, my workspace has a side table to it, this is where I jot down notes and do quick sketches.  Over time it has ended up a bit messy from paint and pen marks, so in the end I decided to actually make that work for me and turned it into a place especially for scribbles, notes, ideas etc.

I bought a roll of white paper and just cut it to the size I require, tape it down and away I go.

as you see, I use it a lot!

When I feel it has enough mess on it,  I cut it up into pieces to use in my sketchbook/journals as backgrounds

Then I put a nice new piece of paper down

and start all over again

from the beginning!

Hope you all have a

good week
